Arsenal's goalkeeper Backs Squad Depth as Essential to Multiple Trophy Challenge
David Raya has declared that intense competition for starting positions is driving Arsenal's outstanding form, with the goalkeeper asserting that the squad's depth under Mikel Arteta is so incredible that they can challenge for various titles this season.
Dominant Victories Highlight The Gunners' Strength
The North London club's latest 4-0 triumph over AtlĂ©tico Madrid represented their six consecutive wins and 10th success in 12 matches. With only three goals concededâa record low at this stage in the team's legacyâthey have secured a narrow advantage at the top of the table and a perfect record in the Champions League after three outings.
Squad Changes and Depth Crucial to Achievements
The goalkeeper has started in nearly every game, aside from one Carabao Cup fixture, but Arteta has frequently changed the lineup following heavy spending on recruits. When asked about chasing several pieces of silverware, Raya said, "Yes, I believe so. Our squad strength is incredible. We have numerous options who can perform in two, three, or four positions."
For instance, against Atlético, Mikel Merino was introduced as a forward and is capable of playing as a central midfielder or attacking midfielder. Such flexibility is available to the manager, and it's being utilized to our advantage. It's looking extremely promising, and this roster strength is very important for us.
Competition Drives Standards
The Spain international added, "This situation gives you an additional edge in training and games because if you're not at it, your place is at risk in a fraction of a second. That fosters healthy competitiveness in sessions and during matches, which is really, really important, and the whole squad accepts it."
Defensive Solidity a Collective Effort
The team have conceded only one goal from regular play so far, and Raya has faced a mere one attempt in their recent victories against three opponents.
"Everyone contributes from the forwards to the goalie," he said. "Everyone is focused, no one wants to concede, and we aim to intercept passes before it reaches the halfway line. If we intercept, it allows a quick counter. This is essential for the entire team to understand that way, and opponents aren't creating many chances, which is ideal."
