The Latest Relaxed Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few notable adjustments:

  • Every squad has just eight real players, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives more options for players seeking different ways to enjoy the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are mad.

Community Reactions: Anger to Praise

"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," and another details everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

All that said, players have valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the community compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
